“Let us pick our books and our pens; they are the most powerful weapons. One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world. Education is the only solution. Education first,” said, Nobel Prize winner, Malala Yousufzai, in her address to the United Nations Youth Assembly.
Education might be defined academically as the “process of receiving or giving systematic instructions,” but it actually entails much more. It’s essentially a process of constant learning that’s considered a basic human right and plays a significant role in uplifting and empowering societies.
Education makes the world a better place, this is an argument as old as time. Today, we’ve taken on the task of exploring and understanding exactly how education achieves that.
So let’s head into it right away!
1. It Creates Awareness
Education provides us the skills to analyze and reason. It gives us the ability to question things and to not believe in them blindly. Blind faith and credulity are what bogs down communities, but an educated population that rejects superstitions goes a long way in developing and empowering itself.
2. It Provides a Moral Compass
According to research, there’s a negative correlation between education and crime rates, this means that the more educated a society is, the lesser crime rate it has. The reasoning behind this is that educated people possess the ability to tell the difference between right and wrong. They have a moral compass that they don’t ever divert from.
3. It Boosts Progress
Education gives access to a ton of opportunities that aren’t bound by any geographical limits. As a result, it promotes progress and prosperity in society.
4. It Promotes a Healthier Lifestyle
Better education benefits both physical and mental health. It provides people knowledge about nutrition and hygiene. Moreover, it reduces stress and anxiety as it opens up a host of opportunities for people to develop themselves and those around them.
5. It Empowers
Education empowers marginalized communities by providing them the confidence to stand up for themselves. It also makes people mobile against social injustice and gives them the ability to make better decisions and protect their rights.
