One of the major objectives of the UN is to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of eradicating all forms of malnutrition and hunger by 2030.

The organization will have to make tremendous efforts to successfully fulfill the objective as the current state of hunger in the world is constantly on the rise.

Statistics collected by the State of Food Security and Nutrition, show that there are a total of 821 million hungry people in the world. Moreover, over 150 million children are malnourished and stunted. These facts are putting the SDG of alleviation at risk.

Do you want to help end world hunger? There’s a lot you can do.

What Causes World Hunger?

The first step to combating any problem is to understand its root cause. Here are some causes of world hunger.

Poverty and hunger go hand-in-hand and are part of a vicious cycle. Families living in poverty-stricken areas of the world often can’t afford to buy nutritious and healthy food, which leads to malnourishment and health problems. As a result, it becomes difficult for people to earn enough to support themselves and their families.

Food Shortage

Farming families in Africa experience a period where the year’s food supply is almost exhausted and there’s still some time left before the next harvest. This is called the ‘hungry season,’ and families might have to skip meals until they can replenish supplies.

War and Conflict

One of the leading causes of world hunger is the increased instances of war and conflict. Over 15 million people face conflict-related hunger in Syria, Iraq, South Sudan, Nigeria and Somalia.

How Can I Help?

Here are some ways you can make a difference.

Donate To Charities

International organizations are working tirelessly to fight world hunger and you can help them further their mission by donating both money and food. Your contribution doesn’t have to be anything major, even the smallest donations can make a huge difference.

Become an Advocate

You can take on the challenge to create awareness about the issue in your community. The more vocal your community is about global hunger, the more actively the government will be investing in possible solutions. Moreover, as an advocate, you can also organize meal packaging events in partnership with different organizations, schools and businesses.

Teach Regarding Health and Nutrition

Educating others about the importance of healthy food, nutrition and hygiene is an absolute necessity in the fight against world hunger.
